5 Gadgets To Help You Sleep

Getting a solid eight hours of sleep is an ideal situation for most people, but realistically, it can be an impossible feat. Either there just aren’t enough hours in the day for such a luxury or your body just straight up says “nope.”

Falling asleep can be super annoying when your mind isn’t relaxed, but sleeping is the most important restorative activity we can do for our bodies and minds. And that’s why relaxing gadgets exist to help ease you into a good night’s sleep.

Check out these sleepy time gadgets to find the product that could help alleviate your insomnia.

Sleep Genius

Sleep Genius is an app developed by neuroscientists for astronauts to help them fall asleep while floating around space. So, chances are, it’ll probably work for you too while laying in your cozy bed — not in space.

The app uses pink noise (a softer variant of white noise), neurosensory algorithms that trigger a motion-induced sensation in your brain, and low-frequency music and binaural beats (rhythms that train your brain to match sleep waveforms) to ease you into sleep. Available for $4.99 on iOS.

Aura Alarm Clock

The Withings Aura Connected Alarm Clock wakes you up to energizing light and customized music. But of course you’ll need to actually fall asleep before that can happen. The Aura records your sleep environment (noise pollution, room temperature and light level), and helps you fall asleep with melatonin-inducing orange light and soothing frequencies that try to copy your body’s circadian rhythms.

It comes with a sensor that monitors your sleep patterns, body movements, breathing cycles and heart rate. The best part is you don’t need to wear it — you simply place it under your mattress. The app will then provide you with a full sleep report. Buy it at Withings starting at $189.95 (the price goes up significantly if you add a sensor).

SleepRate

Keep track of how well (or how terrible) you sleep each night. The SleepRate app and heart rate monitor gives you a detailed assessment of your night, including how long you were actually in REM sleep.

The app records sounds in your bedroom so you know if something startled you awake or if something like sleep apnea is the problem. It includes a cognitive behavior therapy program from Stanford University to improve your sleep quality, starting with setting a bedtime and wake up time. Check out the SleepRate website to see the different available plans. Download for iOS and Android.

LIFX

LIFX is a Wi-Fi enabled, multi-color, energy-efficient LED light bulb that you can control with your smartphone or with Amazon Alexa. Each color has a different role: light purple slows your heart rate and helps you relax, deep red helps you sleep and light orange wakes you up.

It also has a feature that helps you wake up naturally by gradually increasing the light. Available on Amazon.

Sleep Number

If all else fails, the problem could be your bed. If you happen to have an extra $8,000-$10,500 to shell out on a good night’s sleep, the Sleep Number x12 bed might do the trick. The bed is voice-activated and integrates a sleep-monitoring tracker directly into the mattress.

The tracker collects data, including your breathing rate, movements and heart rate, then sends it to the app where you can also track your lifestyle habits that might be affecting your sleep.
